Welcome to the NINDS/NIDCD ACUC Homepage

The Animal Care and Use Committee, or ACUC, is a committee appointed by the Scientific Director of the Institute. The ACUC has certain federally mandated responsibilities, such as review of protocols and periodic evaluations of the program of animal care and use, including inspections of facilities.

The ACUC monitors the animal care and use program by conducting thorough reviews of the program and inspections of the animal facilities. These reviews and inspections occur semiannually. The Committee also oversees the specific use of animals by formally reviewing protocols, either at a convened meeting or through the use of designated reviewers.
